It's hot here! Far too hot for me up on the plot so I have to say I have avoided it for the past few days. Even the evenings refuse to offer some cooler period and I'm feeling a bit guilty about leaving it all to fend for itself in the heat. I think I might try and pop up there late tonight to just throw some water at the tomatoes and courgettes - not enough in the water butt to water one plant so I can only take enough for the thirsty! I'm panicking again about the weeds too, they don't appear drought intolerant at all and are getting enormous but the ground is just too hard to get them out - maybe a go over with the shears will at least stop them seeding everywhere.
The ground that I had earmarked for the purple sprouting broccoli is also too hard now to dig over and so they are still awaiting transplanting from their original sown row. The plants are getting a bit big now and I'm worried it's going to be too late to move them and so I will have to thin them and loose the thinnings.
The aubergines in the conservatory, including the one I am babysitting for my mother, seem to have got a dose of red spider mite! I've got pots of water around them and spray them with water every time I think of it. I've wiped some off with a damp kitchen towel but the little horrors are still there. I've not decided whether they came in on my mother's plant or if I had it first and have given it to her....!
